Place of Birth: Gmunden, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Disciplinary background

1970 Graduation in Bundesrealgymnasium Gmunden
1970 - 1975 Studies of Technical Physics, Technical University Vienna
1975 Graduation to "Diplomingenieur" in Technical Physics,
1975-1980 Thesis: Methodical Investigations for the Application of Cathodoluminescence in Scanning Electron Microscopy to Biological and Medical Problems.
1980 Degree of Doctor of Technical Nature-Sciences, Technical University Vienna
1981-1989 Assistent Researcher in the research group of Photobiophysics at the Atominstitute of Austrian Universities in Vienna, focusing on the detection of ultraweak light emission from living systems, especially from human white blood cells and plant materials.
1989-1991 Invitation to Japan for research work within an international ERATO (Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology) project of JRDC (Research Development Corporation of Japan). Work in the Inaba Biophoton Project, Sendai. The project was focusing on ultra weak light (single photons per second) that is emitted from, transmitted in, and absorbed by biological tissue and cells.

since 1992 Staff Researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann-Institute of Osteology, Vienna, and in the long-term cooperation with the Erich Schmid Institute of Material Sciences of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Metal Physics of the Montanuniversity Leoben in Leoben and since 2003 with the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam, Germany. Specialization in the measurement of mineralization density distributions (MDD) in mineralized tissue using quantitative backscattered electron imaging (qBEI)
2003 associated Professor for biomaterial sciences at the Montanuniversity Leoben, Leoben Austria.
